Paralysis Ticks

Paralysis Ticks (Ixodes holocyclus) are back in numbers in South East Queensland

Here are a few tips on minimising risk to family and pets. Cut all long grass and vegetation on your property, remove children's toys from the yard when not in use. Pet advice is best sought from a qualified vet and implemented as advised. We find that. The most effective removal of Ticks is best achieved through a Integrated Pest Management approach, ie work with your pest man to achieve best results.

Cockroaches the most loathed pest.

There are some very good reasons why cockroaches are considered the one of the most hated pests in the world. They are known to spread disease-causing bacteria as well as causing asthma and respiratory problems and the stigma associated with cockroaches and unsanitary conditions. Every property is at risk of cockroach infestation but there are ways to limit cockroach activity by removing any food sources a scrap of food is a mountain of food to a cockroach, remove water they need water to survive, removing water will help to break the lifecycle, remove their shelter by sealing any gaps, cracks & crevices this will also limit any access points. Due to the breeding cycle of cockroaches (faster than rabbits) the best way to take control is to call a professional and licenced pest man as they have greater experience, knowledge and a arsenal of tools and pesticides to keep your premises cockroach free.

Pest season is almost here, are you prepared?

Spring is here and with early warm weather and recent rains it has combined to create perfect conditions for insects such as Cockroaches , Ants, Spiders, Bed Bugs & Flies. For a business such as a hotel or body corporate the presence of such insects poses a real threat of damage, contamination, health and reputation which can easily in some cases cost more than an annual pest control treatment. There are always quite a few ways in which you yourself can reduce the risk of a pest outbreak such as keeping vegetation cut back away from buildings, ensure bins and bin areas are kept clean, any items are stored away from the perimeter of buildings, make sure pets are on a flea treatment, Ants and cockroaches love food scraps and food spills so make sure you clean up, numerous insects are also attracted to moisture so make sure you don't have any leaking taps internally and externally, ensure that fly screens are not damaged this will help to keep out a variety of nuisance pests. A professional treatment is the most effective way to control these pests be it in your home or business. When contacting a pest control company it's recommend to ensure that they are licensed and fully insured, a specialised pest control treatment can guarantee a long term solution and reduce the risk of reinfestation through professional treatment methods.

Why Pest Control costs what it costs

Why does pest control cost so much?
After all you can go to any hardware or supermarket buy some insecticide and hose the house down to your hearts content. You will save some money and acquire a sense of achievement against Mother Nature, tell your spouse and rave about your ability to protect your family and home. But then a week later guess who is back? The hardwares and supermarkets do not have the pesticide market cornered but they do make a killing selling products over and over, not because it doesn't kill the pests but because you don't know how to use it. Do you even read the instructions prior to application? Did you know that the law requires you to read and follow the instructions exactly?  Would you perform a medical operation on a family member if you had the medicine, medical tools and even a book on how to replace a kidney? Pest control is the same, the laws, products, methods and tools change constantly. Your pest man has to be an entomologist, chemical engineer,a construction expert, plumbing expert, and a mathematician and be able to explain these complicated subjects to you. I have been in the pest control industry for over 15 years and this year alone have been to 4 training seminars one of those being 4 days. So what are you paying for? In short ME a life dedicated to pest control and keeping up with the ever changing landscape of it. You are not paying for me to spray your premises, you are paying for it to be done right. If you want it done right the give us a call.

I've found termites, what do I do?

Termite infestations are often found by accident, often by putting your hand through a door or window trim or even by putting the vacuum through a skirting board. The first thing to do when you discover termites is don't panic and DO NOT disturb them any further, by this stage the termites have already been in your home for some time and if you have to wait a day or two for them to be inspected and treated there would be minimal damage they will cause over another 24 - 48 hours . Too often when people discover they have termites they will then go and spray them with a product like Baygon or Mortein this is the worst thing you can do as these pesticides do not target the termite nest colony or queen which can the make a professional treatment much more difficult and less successful. Best results are achieved with a detailed inspection and a treatment with a quality termiticide.

Pestered by Rodents

It's winter and rodents ( rats & mice ) have become increasingly active throughout residential and commercial buildings. There are numerous reasons why you want be rid of these pests. Disease carriers - they have been known to transmit up to 35 different diseases, more commonly found diseases are Leptospirosis and Typhus. Physical damage - rats and mice continually gnaw  on items such as  plaster board, timber framing, pvc water piping, electrical wiring both in buildings and vehicles which can lead to fires. Phobia - a fear of rodents is common and even those who do not have phobias things that go bump in the night can at least be quite annoying. A common rule is- mice sound like rats, rats sound like possums, possums sound like elephants, it's best not to know what elephants sound like in your roof void.

Controlling Ants

Ants form colonies that range in size from a handful of predatory individuals to highly organised colonies which may occupy large areas and consist of millions of individuals. These larger colonies are sometimes described as super organisms because ants appear to operate as a unified entity, collectively working together to support the colony.

When ants begin to infest homes they fall into the category of a nuisance pest. Some species can also be a public health problem and thus have made ants the No.1 pest for pest managers.

Most home owners don't realise that do it yourself ant control efforts can actually make things worse. Over the counter sprays are repellant and can cause 'budding' where ants are separated from the parent nest and start new colonies .

Here are a few things you can do to help keep your home ant free; clean up food and spills quickly, empty waste baskets often, dispose of uneaten pet food, store food in pest proof containers, keep trees and shrubs trimmed back from your house, keep gutters and storm drains free of debris, watch for new ant mounds and nests around the home.
